S&P: CenterPoint Energy unaffected

Standard & Poor's said that the shutdown of Unit No. 2 of the South Texas Nuclear Project due to the identification and repair of a small leak in the reactor coolant system is not expected to affect the ratings of CenterPoint Energy Inc. (BBB/negative/--).

The shutdown occurred on Feb. 9, and repairs were initiated soon thereafter.

S&P said that absent a prolonged shutdown that materially affects revenue or threatens the value realized in the sale of CenterPoint's interest in South Texas Nuclean Project to Texas Genco LLC, the shutdown is not expected to affect credit quality at CenterPoint.
