Cal Dive committee wins court approval to hire lead and local counsel

Pittsburgh, May 7 – Cal Dive International, Inc.’s official committee of unsecured creditors received court approval to hire Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP and Pepper Hamilton LLP as its co-counsel, according to orders filed Thursday with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware.

The hirings are retroactive to March 17.

The committee said Akin Gump will serve as its lead co-counsel, with Pepper Hamilton serving as Delaware counsel.

The hourly rates for Akin Gump employees expected to have primary responsibility for providing services to the committee include $1,250 per hour for restructuring department partner Michael S. Stamer, $850 per hour for financial restructuring department partner Meredith A. Lahaie, $750 per hour for financial restructuring department counsel Kevin M. Eide, $650 per hour for financial restructuring department associate Lauren R. Lifland and $430 per hour for financial restructuring department associate Matthew W. Kinskey.

Meanwhile, the hourly rate for Pepper Hamilton employees include $790 per hour for partner David B. Stratton, $510 per hour for partner Evelyn J. Meltzer, $425 per hour for associate John H. Schanne II and $275 per hour for paralegal Christopher A. Lewis.

Cal Dive, a Houston-based marine contractor providing services to the offshore oil and natural gas industry, filed for bankruptcy on March 3. The Chapter 11 case number is 15-10458.
