Diocese of Rockville secures fourth extension of exclusive periods

By Sarah Lizee

Olympia, Wash., Dec. 9 – The Roman Catholic Diocese of Rockville Centre, New York received a fourth extension of its exclusive periods to file and solicit votes on a Chapter 11 plan, according to an order filed Thursday with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York.

Specifically, the court extended the plan filing period through April 1 from Jan. 29 and the solicitation period through June 1, 2022 from March 30.

“Extending the exclusive periods will ensure that the debtor and its creditors are able to capitalize on the progress they have made to date in this Chapter 11 case,” the diocese said in its motion.

The diocese noted that the extension will allow it to develop a plan and reach a global settlement with its insurers and claimants.

In addition, mediation between the parties started on Oct. 20. The diocese said it expects to continue to have productive discussions with the official committee of unsecured creditors and its insurers during the mediation.

The Rockville Centre, N.Y.-based diocese filed bankruptcy on Oct. 1, 2020 under Chapter 11 case number 20-12345.
