King Mountain Tobacco: Court sets Sept. 14 plan confirmation hearing

By Sarah Lizee

Olympia, Wash., Aug. 10 – The court overseeing King Mountain Tobacco Co., Inc.’s Chapter 11 bankruptcy case scheduled a Sept. 14 Chapter 11 plan confirmation hearing, according to a minute entry filed Tuesday.

The court said it held a status conference and that the parties involved continue to remain optimistic that they are close to an agreed plan.

The parties are continuing to negotiate and expressed that they believe the plan will be confirmed at the scheduled hearing.

As previously reported, the company had received approval of an amended disclosure statement for a plan on March 22 from the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Washington.

A confirmation hearing was set for May 31 but was continued indefinitely by the court.

A year earlier in March 2021, the company had received court approval of its first disclosure statement. That statement was later amended and approved again in June 2021. The company notified the court in January 2022 that it was continuing to negotiate a consensual plan.

King Mountain Tobacco is a White Swan, Wash.-based tobacco manufacturer owned and operated by citizens of the Yakama Nation. The company filed Chapter 11 bankruptcy on Sept. 25, 2020 under case number 20-01808.
