Boy Scouts of America gets plan extension to focus on reorganization
By Caroline Salls
Pittsburgh, July 9 – Boy Scouts of America obtained an extension of its exclusive periods for filing and soliciting votes on a Chapter 11 plan, according to an order filed Thursday with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware.
Specifically, the exclusive filing period was extended by 120 days through Oct. 15 and the solicitation period through Dec. 15.
The organization said it filed bankruptcy to resolve abuse litigation, stem the increasing costs of addressing that litigation in the tort system on a case-by-case basis, eliminate the risk of inconsistent judicial outcomes and unequal treatment of abuse survivors and implement a global resolution of abuse claims through a plan of reorganization.
According to the motion, an injunction prohibiting parties from filing or continuing lawsuits expires on Nov. 16.
Boy Scouts said the extension will allow it and its stakeholders to focus on its reorganization and work toward developing a Chapter 11 plan in that time.
Boy Scouts of America is based in Irving, Tex. It filed bankruptcy on Feb. 17 under Chapter 11 case number is 20-10343.
