Box Ships files $500 million shelf covering shares, debt, preferreds

Knoxville, Tenn., May 1 - Box Ships Inc. filed a $500 million shelf registration in an F-3 filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

The registration covers common shares, preferred shares, debt securities, warrants, purchase contracts, rights and units.

The securities may be structured as convertibles.

The company will describe in a prospectus supplement how it plans to use the proceeds.

The shipping company is based in Athens, Greece.
