Moody's: Botswana improving

In its annual credit report on Botswana, Moody's Investors Service said that Botswana's A2 rating and stable outlook reflect the continuous improvement of the government's fiscal position as a result of the faster-than-expected implementation of its fiscal consolidation plan.

Moody's assessment of Botswana's economic strength as moderate balances weaknesses such as the country's middle-income status and the small size of its economy against strengths such as the country's sound policy framework and strong government effectiveness.

Botswana's institutional strength is high on the back of its overall institutional framework, strong governance and successful implementation of forward-looking policies, the agency said.
