Essex announces launch of the Essex Environmental Opportunities Fund

By Sarah Lizee

Olympia, Wash., Sept. 6 – Essex Investment Management Co., LLC launched the Essex Environmental Opportunities Fund, according to a company news release.

The company said the mutual fund is based on Essex’s long-standing institutional investment effort in public equities centered on environmental solutions, the Essex Global Environmental Opportunities Strategy, and will include the same portfolio of global equity securities.

The fund is intended to allow greater access and liquidity for both retail and institutional investors, harnessing the domain expertise garnered from the team’s collective 20 years of experience in environmental investing in listed equities, the release said.

The fund will be offered in two share classes, institutional (GEOSX) and retail shares (EEOFX).

Ultimus Fund Solutions is the distribution and mutual fund services partner for the fund.

“We are investing in technologies that enable economies and companies to operate more efficiently and sustainably – to do more with less,” Rob Uek, co-portfolio manager for the fund said in the release.

“That is the essence of clean technology – solving complex problems such as urbanization in the emerging markets, associated environmental degradation and transitioning energy sources beyond fossil fuels in the face of global climate change,” Bill Page, co-portfolio manager added.

Boston-based Essex is an investment adviser that manages growth equity portfolios for institutional clients.
