Luxembourg, Shanghai exchanges roll out Chinese green bond indexes

By Susanna Moon

Chicago, June 20 – The Luxembourg Stock Exchange is working with the Shanghai Stock Exchange to bring a green bond index series, which will track the performance of Chinese green bonds in renminbi.

The exchanges signed an agreement to launch the green bond index “that synchronously displays quotes in China and Europe,” according to the announcement.

The series will consist of two indexes, the SSE Green Corporate Bond index and the SSE Green Bond index, that reflect the value of green bonds issued and listed on the stock market in Shanghai.

The indexes were developed by the exchange “as part of a cross-border cooperation” between them dating back to 2006.

“The indices aim to provide greater transparency and facilitate access to Chinese green securities for investors in Europe,” the release noted.

The Chinese green bonds will be used to finance environmentally friendly projects.
