General Wireless eyes exclusivity extension; 2017 emergence expected

By Caroline Salls

Pittsburgh, Dec. 4 – General Wireless Operations Inc., which does business as RadioShack, is seeking a third extension of its exclusive periods for filing and soliciting votes on a Chapter 11 plan, according to a motion filed with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware.

Specifically, the company wants to extend its exclusive filing period through Feb. 16 from Dec. 4 and the solicitation period through April 20 from Feb. 4.

As previously reported, General Wireless’s plan of reorganization was confirmed on Oct. 26.

The company said in the extension motion that it expects the plan to take effect by the end of the year.

However, General Wireless said it is requesting the extension “out of an abundance of caution” to give it more time, “in the unlikely event the plan does not go effective,” to work with constituents to file and seek confirmation of an alternate plan or otherwise evaluate its options going forward.

A hearing is scheduled for Jan. 24.

General Wireless is a Fort Worth-based operator of neighborhood electronics convenience stores. The company filed bankruptcy on March 9, 2017. The Chapter 11 case number is 17-10506.
