Bio-Rad buys Provalis' medical diagnostics business for $3 million

By Angela McDaniels

Seattle, Sept. 7 - Bio-Rad Laboratories, Inc. has completed the purchase of the medical diagnostics business of Provalis plc for roughly $3 million in cash, according to a Bio-Rad news release.

The acquired business is based in Deeside, England, and develops, manufactures and sells point-of-care diagnostic products for ongoing management of diabetes and osteoporosis.

"Point-of-care testing continues to be of growing importance in the diagnostics area. While this is a relatively small acquisition, it expands our market breadth in the very critical area of diabetes monitoring," Bio-Rad president and chief executive officer Norman Schwartz said in the release.

Bio-Rad Laboratories, based in Hercules, Calif., manufactures and distributes life science research products and clinical diagnostics.
