BioProgress expands tablet-coating system with EntWrap, plans test of TabWrap technology

By Lisa Kerner

Charlotte, N.C., Aug. 16 - BioProgress plc said it has developed a novel enteric single-step tablet-coating system, EntWrap, which uses the company's XGEL and TabWrap technologies.

Enteric coatings allow tablets to pass through the stomach into the intestines for rapid absorption.

In addition, the company plans to test its first TabWrap tablet-coating machine in a cGMP pharmaceutical tablet manufacturing facility in the United Kingdom during the fourth quarter.

TabWrap technology coats solid tablet cores with a non-gelatin layer of XGEL film.

The tablet-wrapping technology competes against the gelatin-coated tablet market, according to a company news release.

"The development of EntWrap widens the market opportunity for BioProgress," chief executive officer Richard Trevillion said in the release.

"With the installation of the first TabWrap machine later this year, we anticipate an aggressive development program of products."

Based in Cambridge, England, BioProgress is a specialty pharmaceutical and health care business specializing in polymer and film systems.
