Biophage Pharma, Biosensor Systems to examine combining technology for sensor product

By Elaine Rigoli

Tampa, Fla., Feb. 16 - Biophage Pharma, Inc. and Biosensor Systems Design, Inc. announced Thursday the signing of a collaborative agreement aimed at evaluating the combined use of Biophage Phage technology with Biosensor's Optisense technology.

The main objective is to assess the technical and commercial viability of the tandem use of both technologies.

Biosensor is conducting this evaluation with a clear interest in subsequently entering into a business relationship should the evaluation be favorable, according to a company news release.

Biosensor has developed a novel biosensor method that has applications with a large number of macromolecular binding agents, according to the release.

"We are very encouraged by the interest generated by our proprietary phage bank and its potential applications in the diagnostic field. This collaborative agreement marks a new and very exciting development milestone for the use of the unique binding properties of phages and their exquisite selectivity in the biosensors arena," said Dr. Mandeville, president and chief executive officer, in a company statement.

"The detection system developed by BSD complements our portfolio of products for live pathogens diagnostics. We are looking forward to continuing our efforts to find new fields of application for our proprietary phage bank and the use of our extensive scientific know-how in the field of biosensors," he added.

Biophage is focused on the development of phage-based biosensors for live pathogen diagnostics and is located in Montreal.

Biosensor is a New York-based company focused on the development and market positioning of its proprietary biosensor technology.
