By Angela McDaniels

Seattle, Dec. 21 - Biomet Inc. has received an approval order from the Food and Drug Administration for its C2a-Taper Acetabular System, according to a company news release.

Biomet will launch the product immediately.

"Biomet's ceramic-on-ceramic system offers surgeons a great alternative-bearing product, coupled with the company's proven porous plasma spray coating technology for excellent long-term fixation," president and chief executive officer Dane A. Miller said in the release.

Other products in Biomet's hip articulation portfolio include M2a metal-on-metal systems and the company' metal and polyethylene constructs, such as ArComXL components and ArCom products.

Biomet is based in Warsaw, Ind., where it designs, manufactures and markets products used by musculoskeletal medical specialists in surgical and non-surgical therapy.
