Kaiser Gypsum seeks exclusivity extension, cites complexities of case

By Caroline Salls

Pittsburgh, March 7 – Kaiser Gypsum Co., Inc. requested an extension of its exclusive periods for filing and soliciting votes on a Chapter 11 plan, according to a motion filed Tuesday with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Western District of North Carolina.

The company wants to extend its exclusive filing period by three months through July 31 and the solicitation period through Sept. 29, 2017.

“The debtors remain committed to emerging from Chapter 11 as soon as is practicable,” Kaiser said in the motion.

“Given the magnitude and complexity of the asbestos-related and other issues, neither the debtors nor any other party is in a position to propose a viable plan of reorganization at this time.”

Kaiser Gypsum is an Irving, Texas-based manufacturer of construction and remodeling materials. It filed for bankruptcy on Sept. 30. The Chapter 11 case number is 16-31602.
