Big M requests 120-day exclusivity extension to focus on asset sale

By Caroline Salls

Pittsburgh, April 10 - Big M, Inc. requested a 120-day extension of its exclusive plan of reorganization filing and vote solicitation procedures, according to a Wednesday filing with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of New Jersey.

The company wants to extend its exclusive plan-filing period through Sept. 3 from May 6 and the solicitation period through Nov. 2, 3013 from July 5.

According to the motion, Big M is seeking this extension so it can have more time to focus on its Chapter 11 efforts, including asset disposition, for the benefit of creditors and parties in interest.

This is the company's first exclusivity extension request.

A hearing is scheduled for May 7.

Big M, a Totowa, N.J.-based women's clothing chain owner, filed for bankruptcy on Jan. 7. Its Chapter 11 case number is 13-10233.
