Gawker Media asks court for precautionary 60-day exclusivity extension

By Caroline Salls

Pittsburgh, Dec. 2 – Gawker Media LLC requested a second extension of its exclusive periods for filing and soliciting votes on a Chapter 11 plan, according to a motion filed Friday with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York.

Specifically, Gawker wants to extend its exclusive plan-filing period to Feb. 5 from Dec. 7 and the solicitation period to April 6 from Feb. 5.

As previously reported, the company filed a plan of liquidation and disclosure statement in September. The disclosure statement was approved on Nov. 4, and the plan confirmation hearing is scheduled to begin on Dec. 13.

Gawker said it is confident that it will satisfy all of the requirements for confirmation of the plan.

However, the company said it is seeking the exclusivity extension “out of an abundance of caution” in case the plan is not confirmed.

The company has requested a Dec. 15 hearing.

Gawker, a New York-based online media company, filed for bankruptcy on June 10. The Chapter 11 case number is 16-11700.
