Berkline/BenchCraft needs more time to file plan, seeks second extension to exclusivity period

By Lisa Kerner

Charlotte, N.C., Oct. 28 - Berkline/BenchCraft LLC requested a second extension to its exclusive periods for filing and soliciting votes on a plan of reorganization, according to a Friday filing with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware.

The company wants to extend the exclusive filing period to Dec. 28 from Oct. 28 and the exclusive solicitation period to Feb. 27, 2012 from Dec. 26.

A hearing is set for Nov. 23.

The company needs more time to complete the monetization of its assets and the wind-down process, the filing said.

Previously, the court extended the exclusive filing period to Oct.28 from Aug. 30 and the exclusive solicitation period to Dec. 26 from Oct. 28. The company had asked for a 90-day extension.

Berkline/BenchCraft, a Morristown, Tenn.-based designer, innovator and manufacturer of residential upholstered furniture, filed for bankruptcy on May 2. The Chapter 11 case number is 11-11369.
