Sports Authority seeks exclusivity extension to analyze plan viability

By Caroline Salls

Pittsburgh, Sept. 21 – Sports Authority Holdings, Inc. is requesting an extension of its exclusive periods to file and solicit votes on its Chapter 11 plan, according to a motion filed Wednesday with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware.

If the extension is approved, the company will have until Dec. 27 and Feb. 26 to file and solicit votes on its Chapter 11 plan, extended from Sept. 28 and Nov. 28, respectively.

Given the issues that have occupied significant time and resources since it filed for bankruptcy, Sports Authority said the requested extension is “both appropriate and necessary to afford the debtors with sufficient time to analyze the viability of a Chapter 11 plan now that the course of the Chapter 11 cases has become more clear.”

A hearing is scheduled for Nov. 1.

Sports Authority, based in Englewood, Colo., is a sporting goods retailer. It filed for bankruptcy on March 2, 2016. Its Chapter 11 case number is 16-10527.
