Aquarian Investments-led investors buy an additional 1.5 million shares of Bear Stearns

Charlotte, N.C., Dec. 26 - Investors led by Joseph Lewis, Aquarian Investments Ltd. and Mandarin, Inc. increased their stake in the Bear Stearns Cos., Inc. to 9.57% from 8.01% with the purchase of an additional 1,530,410 shares of the company's stock.

The shares were bought between Dec. 6 and Dec. 21 priced from $89.08 to $110.00 each, according to a schedule 13D filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

The reporting persons have used some $1.186 billion from working capital to purchase a total of about 11.05 million shares of the New York financial services company's stock.
