Bear Stearns to sell notes linked to basket of four indexes

Des Moines, March 14 - The Bear Stearns Cos. Inc. plans to price an issue of medium-term notes due September 2012 linked to an index basket, according to a 424B2 filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

The basket includes equal weights of the S&P 500 index, the Dow Jones Euro Stoxx 50 index, the Nikkei 225 stock index and the S&P BRIC 40 index.

Payout at maturity will be par plus any positive return on the basket. Investors will receive at least par.

The return on the basket will be calculated based on the value of each index on each of six monthly observation dates between April 2012 and September 2012.

The notes are expected to settle in March.

Bear Stearns & Co. Inc. will act as agent.
