Santiago Exchange, S&P Dow Jones launch Sustainability Chile index

By Tali Rackner

Norfolk, Va., Oct. 7 – Bolsa de Santiago and S&P Dow Jones Indices announced the launch of the Dow Jones Sustainability Chile index, the first sustainability index in Chile, according to a press release.

The index consists of 12 companies that fulfill certain sustainability criteria better than the majority of their peers within a given industry. The current constituents are: AES Gener SA, Aguas Andinas SA, Banco de Credito e Inversiones, Banco Santander Chile, Cencosud SA, CorpBanca SA, Empresas CMPC SA, Inversiones Aguas Metropolitanas SA, Latam Airlines Group SA, SACI Falabella, Sigdo Koppers SA and Vina Concha y Toro SA.

The index uses a best-in-class approach to select sustainability leaders, meaning that only the most sustainable companies, in industries that meet certain minimum sustainability requirements, are selected for index membership, the release said. Therefore, companies must continually intensify their sustainability initiatives to be included or to remain in the index.

“Via this index, the Santiago Exchange seeks to maintain its leadership position in promoting responsible investment,” Santiago Exchange chief executive officer Jose Antonio Martinez said in the release.

“The companies within the Dow Jones Sustainability Chile Index have not only incorporated sustainable processes into their business, but are also creating value for their shareholders.”

S&P Dow Jones Indices is a part of McGraw Hill Financial and provides index-based concepts, data and research. The Santiago Exchange is a Chilean multi asset-class exchange.
