Haggen receives court OK to sell 30 former stores to Albertson’s

By Caroline Salls

Pittsburgh, Nov. 25 – Haggen Operations Holdings, LLC received court approval to sell 30 former Haggen stores in California, Washington, Arizona, Nevada and Oregon to Albertson’s LLC, according to an Albertson’s news release.

All 30 stores were former Albertsons, Safeway or Vons stores that had been sold to Haggen earlier this year.

Albertson’s said the Federal Trade Commission granted its request for an early termination of its required waiting period under the sale order, allowing the company to participate in the auction process for the stores in question.

The company said it expects to close on the transaction in the coming weeks, and the stores will reopen under Albertson’s various operating banners in 2016.

Haggen, a Bellingham, Wash.-based supermarket company, filed bankruptcy on Sept. 8 in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware. The Chapter 11 case number is 15-11874.
