BB&T files automatic shelf registration for stock, debt, preferreds

Knoxville, Tenn., July 13 - BB&T Corp. filed an automatic shelf registration in an S-3 ASR filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

The registration covers senior and subordinated debt securities, common stock, preferred stock, depositary shares, warrants, stock purchase contracts, stock purchase units and units.

The securities may be structured as convertibles.

The company will describe in a prospectus supplement how it plans to use the proceeds.

The financial services company is based in Richmond, Va.
