A&P extends global bid deadline for sale of 160 stores to Sept. 21

By Caroline Salls

Pittsburgh, Sept. 17 – The Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Co., Inc. extended the global bid deadline for the sale of 160 of its stores to 5 p.m. ET on Sept. 21, according to a notice filed Thursday with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York.

The company said it has received more than 100 bids, and some potential bidders said they need more time to submit their offers.

The extended deadline does not apply to 70 stores included in the stalking horse bid package of Acme Markets, Inc. and 24 Stores included in the stalking horse bid package of The Stop & Shop Supermarket Co., LLC.

Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea, a Montvale, N.J.-based supermarket chain, filed for bankruptcy on Dec. 12, 2010. Its Chapter 11 case number is 10-24549.
