El Paso Children’s Hospital requests four more months to propose plan

By Kali Hays

New York, June 30 – El Paso Children’s Hospital Corp. is seeking approval of a 120-day extension of its exclusive Chapter 11 plan filing and solicitation periods from the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of New York, according to a Monday motion.

The company asked that its plan filing period be extended to Nov. 13 from July 16 and its solicitation period to Jan. 12, 2016 from Sept. 14.

As El Paso’ focus has been on the recently completed “transfer of hundreds of programs for persons with developmental disabilities and other mental health issues,” the company said that filing a plan at this time would be “premature.”

The company now intends to begin disposing of its real estate assets, a process that needs to be completed in order for El Paso to evaluate its options and file a plan “capable of being confirmed and bringing this case to a successful conclusion,” according to the motion.

A hearing to consider the extension is set for July 16.

Based in El Paso, Texas, El Paso Children’s Hospital provides pediatric patient care, research and education services. The hospital filed for bankruptcy on May 19 under the Chapter 11 case number 15-30784.
