By Wendy Van Sickle

Columbus, Ohio, Sept. 28 – Latham & Watkins LLP has added Eli Katz to the firm in New York as a partner in the Tax and Finance Departments.

Katz’s practice focuses on project finance with an emphasis on tax structures for U.S. renewable energy projects and a range of financings, according to a press release.

As a renewable energy and clean technology lawyer, Katz has experience advising power developers, national banks, insurance companies, private equity sponsors and infrastructure funds in the sale and purchase of renewable energy assets and companies.

He has been involved in the development of many of the funding structures now commonly used in the distributed power market, the company said.

Katz also has represented clients before the IRS and Treasury on tax issues pertaining to energy tax credits, tax depreciation deductions, cash grants and related matters.

“Eli has led some of the largest and first-of-their-kind transactions in the renewable energy sector, and we’re delighted to welcome him to the firm,” said Michele Penzer, office managing partner of Latham & Watkins in New York, in the release. “His deep understanding of tax equity financing structures and experience leading interdisciplinary teams of lawyers on transactions will bring tremendous value to Latham’s developer, sponsor and bank clients in the United States.”

Latham & Watkins is a law firm with offices in Asia, Europe, the Middle East and the United States.
