Lutheran Church-Canada gets protection from creditors with CCAA order

By Kali Hays

New York, Feb. 2 – The Lutheran Church-Canada, Alberta - British Columbia District and its related entities obtained an initial Companies’ Creditors Arrangement Act order staying all actions from creditors from the Court of Queen’s Bench of Alberta in Bankruptcy and Insolvency, according to a statement from court appointed monitor Deloitte Restructuring Inc.

Affiliates included in the CCAA filing are Lutheran Church-Canada, Alberta - British Columbia District Investments Ltd. Encharis Community Housing Services and Encharis Management and Support Services.

Deloitte said that Lutheran Church is assessing its options regarding a formal plan of arrangement in order to “restructure their affairs, compromise their debt and continue their operations.”

The next court hearing is expected to occur before Feb. 20, which is also the expiration of the stay order.

Lutheran Church-Canada operates 127 congregations and 26 schools and pre-schools throughout Alberta and British Colombia.
