Barclays suspends further issues of iPath Dow Jones-UBS Natural Gas Subindex ETNs for now

By Jennifer Chiou

New York, Aug. 21 - Barclays Bank plc announced that it has temporarily suspended any further issues of iPath Dow Jones-UBS Natural Gas Subindex Total Return exchange-traded notes.

The notes trade on the NYSE Arca stock exchange under "GAZ."

According to a news release, this suspension may cause fluctuations in the trading value of the notes, but daily redemptions at the option of the holders will not be affected by this suspension.

Barclays stated that the market value of the notes may be influenced by, among other things, the levels of supply and demand for the notes.

The bank added that it believes that the limitations on the issuance and sale may cause an imbalance of supply and demand in the secondary market, which may cause fluctuations in the value. Because of this, any purchase of the notes in the secondary market may be at a purchase price significantly different from their indicative value.

Barclays also said that the factors underlying the temporary suspension of the notes may impact other commodity-linked iPath ETNs in the future.
