Mississippi Phosphates committee obtains approval of counsel hiring

By Caroline Salls

Pittsburgh, Feb. 11 – Mississippi Phosphates Corp.’s official committee of unsecured creditors received court approval to hire Burr & Forman LLP as its legal counsel, according to an order filed Tuesday with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Mississippi.

The hiring is retroactive to Nov. 14.

Burr & Forman will assist the committee in its negotiations with the company, review any proposed plan and/or disclosure statement, render general legal advice and appear in court on behalf of the committee as needed, according to the motion.

Attorneys responsible for the case will be paid an hourly rate between $200 and $550 and seek expense reimbursement with the court.

Mississippi Phosphates, a Pascagoula, Miss., fertilizer company, filed for bankruptcy on Oct. 27. The Chapter 11 case number is 14-51667.
