MacKeyser unsecured committee allowed to hire Cooley as lead counsel

By Kali Hays

New York, Aug. 4 – MacKeyser Holdings, LLC’s official committee of unsecured creditors obtained court authorization to hire Cooley LLP as its lead legal counsel, according to a Monday order with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware.

The hiring is retroactive to July 8.

As previously reported, the committee said that Cooley is “especially well suited” to represent it in the Chapter 11 cases as the firm has acted as legal counsel to official committees in many other similar cases.

Cooley will attend committee meetings, review financial information provided by MacKeyser, investigate company value, analyze any proposed Chapter 11 plan and perform any legal services that the committee requires, according to the motion.

Employees of Cooley responsible for the case have agreed to a 15% courtesy discount on their normal hourly rate and will be paid between $221 and $845 per hour.

Las Vegas-based MacKeyser Holdings and operating affiliates American Optical Services, LLC and Exela Hearing Services, LLC manage integrated eye care and hearing systems providers. The company filed bankruptcy on June 20 under Chapter 11 case number 14-11550.
