Sears Methodist committee to hire Greenberg Traurig as legal counsel

By Kali Hays

New York, July 18 – Sears Methodist Retirement System, Inc.’s official committee of unsecured creditors is seeking court approval to hire Greenberg Traurig, LLP as its legal counsel, according to a Friday motion with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of Texas.

If approved, the hiring will be retroactive to June 19.

Greenberg will represent the committee in negotiations with the company, advise the committee in its investigation of the financial state of the company, analyze any proposed financing or plan and provide it with any legal needs in and out of court, according to the motion.

The firm has agreed to provide the services of its attorneys at a discounted hourly rate ranging between $250 and $700 per hour.

A hearing is set for Aug. 29.

Sears Methodist is a Dallas-based non-profit senior living provider that filed for bankruptcy June 10. The Chapter 11 case number is 14-32821.
