W.R. Grace sets Aug. 31, 2009 bar date for Canadian ZAI property damage claims

By Caroline Salls

Pittsburgh, Jan. 15 - W.R. Grace & Co. has received court approval to set a bar date of Aug. 31, 2009 for filing of Zonolite Attic Insulation claims relating to property in Canada, according to a Thursday news release.

Grace said a fund has been established to pay valid ZAI claims in connection with a claim settlement.

According to the release, Canadian ZAI property damage claims are property-related claims that could include the cost of abatement or removal, the diminution of property value, economic loss, or other property-related claims caused by ZAI manufactured by Grace.

Grace said the bar date does not apply to medical monitoring claims, non-asbestos claims, settled pre-bankruptcy asbestos personal injury claims, non-settled asbestos personal injury claims or ZAI claims related to property in the United States.

The company said the bar dates for these claims have passed.

W.R. Grace, a Columbia, Md.-based specialty chemicals company, filed for bankruptcy on April 2, 2001 in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware. Its Chapter 11 case number is 01-01139.
