Winn-Dixie gets court OK for $5 million sale of closed Oviedo, Fla., supermarket

By Caroline Salls

Pittsburgh, Feb. 9 - Winn-Dixie Stores Inc. obtained court approval to sell a closed grocery store and land in Oviedo, Fla., to AHG Group LLC for $5 million, according to a Thursday filing with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Middle District of Florida.

The stalking horse bidder was Equity One (Florida Portfolio), Inc., with a $3.7 million bid.

According to the motion, the Oviedo grocery store operated at a loss of more than $400,000 in 2004 and 2005. Winn-Dixie said its sale will prevent further losses and bring cash into the estate.

Winn-Dixie, a Jacksonville, Fla., supermarket company, filed for Chapter 11 on Feb. 21, 2005 in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York. The case was later transferred to the Middle District of Florida. Its Chapter 11 case number is 05-03817.
