By Caroline Salls

Pittsburgh, July 27 - Winn-Dixie Stores Inc. obtained approval to sell merchandise in store-closing sales for 23 of its stores and hire liquidating agents to assist with the sales, according to a Wednesday filing with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Middle District of Florida.

Hilco Merchant Resources, LLC and Gordon Brothers Retail Partners, LLC entered into an agreement on June 30 to serve as the liquidating agents, according to the filing.

The company previously said that it expects the store-closing sales to begin on Aug. 1 and be completed in early to mid-September.

Winn-Dixie, a Jacksonville, Fla.-based supermarket company, filed for bankruptcy on Feb. 21 with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York and has moved its case to the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Middle District of Florida. Its Chapter 11 case number is 05-11063.
