Winn-Dixie seeks to extend exclusivity to file plan, solicit votes

By Caroline Salls

Pittsburgh, May 31 - Winn-Dixie Stores, Inc. requested an extension to its exclusive periods to file a plan of reorganization and solicit votes on the plan, according to a Friday filing with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Middle District of Florida.

The company wants to extend its exclusive period to file a plan to Oct. 19 from June 21 and to solicit votes to Dec. 20 from Aug. 22.

Winn-Dixie said it needs more time to develop and negotiate a plan of reorganization.

The company said that although it has made progress in rehabilitating the company since filing for bankruptcy, its bankruptcy case is large and complex, with more than 290,000 creditors filing proofs of claim.

A hearing is scheduled for June 16.

Winn-Dixie, a Jacksonville, Fla.-based supermarket company, filed for bankruptcy on Feb. 21. Its Chapter 11 case number is 05-11063.
