Winn-Dixie shows improved $149.91 million operating loss for year ended June 28

Pittsburgh, Sept. 22 - Winn-Dixie Stores, Inc. reported a $149.91 million operating loss for the year ended June 28 on $7.194 billion in net sales, according to its 10-K filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

For the year ended June 29, 2005, the company posted a $308.5 million operating loss on $7.005 billion in net sales.

The figures include a reduction in impairment charges to $15.6 million for the year ended June 28 from $158.42 million the previous year and a $7.67 million restructuring gain for the 12 months ended June 28, compared with $34.24 million in restructuring charges on recorded on June 29, 2005.

The company also saw a $9.62 million income tax benefit in the most recent year, up from a $190.46 million income tax expense the year before.

The net loss for the most recent year was $361.3 million, improved from an $832.6 million net loss the year before.

Cash and cash equivalents on June 28 were $187.54 million, compared with $62.14 million on June 29, 2005.

Winn-Dixie, a Jacksonville, Fla., supermarket company, filed for Chapter 11 on Feb. 21, 2005 in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York. The case was later transferred to the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Middle District of Florida. Its Chapter 11 case number is 05-03817.
