Whitehall Jewelers granted three-month exclusivity extension

By Caroline Salls

Pittsburgh, Jan. 15 - Whitehall Jewelers Holdings, Inc. obtained a 90-day extension to its exclusive periods to file a plan of reorganization and solicit votes on the plan, according to a Thursday filing with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware.

The company's exclusive plan-filing period was extended to April 20 from Jan. 19 and the solicitation period to June 22, 2009 from March 23.

Whitehall said the extension allows the company to fully assess its remaining wind-down issues, including evaluating the final results of its going-out-of-business sales and the expected recoveries from the remaining estate assets.

Whitehall, a Chicago-based jewelry retailer, filed for bankruptcy on June 23, 2008. Its Chapter 11 case number is 08-11261.
