S&P affirms WestJet Airlines

Standard & Poor’s said it affirmed its BBB- long-term corporate credit and senior unsecured debt ratings on WestJet Airlines Ltd.

“We are revising our competitive position score on WestJet to strong from satisfactory,” said S&P credit analyst Jamie Koutsoukis in a news release. “The revision reflects our assessment of strong operating performance relative to WestJet’s airline peers and the level of consistency in the company’s profitability.”

The ratings on WestJet reflect what S&P views of the company’s “fair” business risk profile and “modest” financial risk profile. S&P views the industry risk as “high” and the country risk as “very low.”
