Fitch: Westar Energy bonds A-

Fitch Ratings said it assigned an A- rating to Westar Energy Inc.'s $250 million issuance of 4.625% series first mortgage bonds due Sept. 1, 2043.

The proceeds will be used to fund the company's ongoing capital program, working capital and general corporate purposes.

The new notes rank equally in right of payment with existing senior secured obligations of Westar, Fitch said.

The outlook is stable.

The ratings reflect the generally balanced regulatory environment in Kansas and the company's strategic focus on utility operations in Kansas, the agency said.

The ratings also consider its large capital expenditure program, including significant environmental investment, Fitch said.
