S&P: No change for WellPoint

Standard & Poor's said the BBB+ and A-2 ratings of WellPoint Inc. are not affected by the surprise announcement that its president and CEO, Larry Glasscock, will retire.

The outlook remains positive.

If during the next six to 12 months, WellPoint's earnings continue to remain healthy and the pace of significant acquisitions slows, S&P said, the counterparty credit and senior debt ratings on the holding company could be raised as much as two notches, and the counterparty credit and financial strength ratings on the operating companies could be raised one notch.

If WellPoint's operating performance deteriorates or if there is a strain on the company from the senior management transition, the agency said the outlook could be revised to stable or negative.
