Wellman files $400 million shelf

Seattle, April 7 - Wellman Inc. registered to sell up to $400 million of securities in a S-3 filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

Covered by the shelf are debt securities, common stock, warrants, stock purchase contracts, units and guarantees of debt securities by Wellman subsidiaries. Debt securities may be structured as convertibles.

Proceeds will be used for general corporate purposes.

Wellman is based in Fort Mill, S.C., and manufactures PET packaging resins and polyester staple fibers.
