Washington Mutual shareholders appeal examiner appointment denial

By Caroline Salls

Pittsburgh, May 19 - Washington Mutual Inc.'s official committee of equity security holders has appealed the bankruptcy court order denying the shareholders' motion to appoint an examiner for the company's Chapter 11 case, according to a Wednesday filing with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware.

The court denied the examiner appointment motion on May 5.

Washington Mutual, a Seattle-based savings and loan holding company, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy on Sept. 26, 2008. Its Chapter 11 case number is 08-12229.
