U.S. trustee appoints independent representative committee for VarTec

By Jeff Pines

Washington, Dec. 8 - The U.S. Trustee's Office appointed an official committee of Excel independent representatives for VarTec Telecom Inc., according to a Wednesday filing with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of Texas.

Excel, a VarTec subsidiary, used 130,000 representatives to market the company's telecommunications services. Several of the former representatives formed an ad hoc committee and requested an official committee to advocate for the representatives' interests.

The members of the committee are: Brian McClure of First Network Communications; Patrick Hintze, Ruel Morton of Anover Inc.; Betty Miles of C&M Co.; Charles Hoover, Telstar Corp.; Scott Pospichal; Paul Jones of the Jones Marketing Group; Carlos Rey of Rey & Rey Enterprises Inc.; and Meg Kelly-Smith.

VarTec and its subsidiaries filed for bankruptcy on Nov. 1. Its Chapter 11 case number is 04-81694.
