Van Kampen's Series 1179 offers units of its five separate portfolios

San Diego, Jan. 11 - Van Kampen Unit Trusts, Series 1179 is offering units of its five portfolios, according to an S-6 amendment filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

The depositor is Houston-based Van Kampen Funds Inc.

Four of the portfolios, the All Cap Core Strategy 2012-1, the Large Cap Core Strategy 2012-1, the Mid Cap Core Strategy 2012-1 and the Small Cap Core Strategy 2012-1, each seek capital appreciation, while the fifth one, the S&P PowerPicks Portfolio 2012-1, seeks above-average total return.

The All Cap Core Strategy uses three separate enhanced index strategies to select a portfolio of 120 stocks, 40 each utilizing the Large Cap Core Strategy, the Mid Cap Core Strategy and the Small Cap Core Strategy. Each of these strategies selects half of its stocks using a growth strategy and the other half using a value strategy.

On the initial date of deposit, Jan. 11, $148,281 in contracts to purchase securities comprised the trust. The 14,978 units have an offering price of $10 and a net asset value of $9.655 each. The estimated net annual income is $0.07779 per unit.

The Large Cap Core Strategy uses two enhanced index strategies to select 40 stocks, 20 using the Large Cap Growth Strategy and 20 using the Large Cap Value Strategy.

On the Jan. 11 initial date of deposit, $148,443 in contracts to purchase securities comprised the trust. The 14,995 units have an offering price of $10 and a net asset value of $9.655 each. The estimated net annual income is $0.10353 per unit.

The Mid Cap Core Strategy also selects 40 stocks, 20 by using the Mid Cap Growth Strategy and 20 by using the Mid Cap Value Strategy.

On the initial date of deposit, Jan. 11, $148,662 in contracts to purchase securities comprised the trust. The 15,017 units have an offering price of $10 and a net asset value of $9.655 each. The estimated net annual income is $0.06331 per unit.

Likewise, the Small Cap Core Strategy uses two enhanced index strategies to select 40 stocks, 20 using the Small Cap Value Strategy and 20 using the Small Cap Growth Strategy.

On the initial date of deposit, Jan. 11, $148,464 in contracts to purchase securities comprised the trust. The 14,997 units have an offering price of $10 and a net asset value of $9.655 each. The estimated net annual income was not included in the filing.

The S&P PowerPicks Portfolio invests in a portfolio of stocks representing the collective "best ideas" by Standard & Poor's equity research staff.

On the initial date of deposit, Jan. 11, $148,339 in contracts to purchase securities comprised the trust. The 14,984 units have an offering price of $10 and a net asset value of $9.655 each. The estimated net annual income is $0.11517 per unit.

Each unit will have a maximum sales charge of 2.95%, consisting of a 1% initial sales charge, a 1.45% deferred sales charge and a 0.5% creation and development fee. The sales charge may be reduced to 1.2% depending on the amount of investment.

The trusts have a mandatory termination date of April 11, 2013.
