DBRS confirms BBVA

DBRS Inc. said it confirmed Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria, SA's issuer and senior debt rating at AA and short-term instruments rating at R-1 (high).

The trend is stable.

The ratings reflect the group's internationally diversified franchise and strong credit fundamentals, DBRS said.

As the second-largest banking group in Spain, the ratings also incorporate an expectation of some form of timely systemic support in the event of a highly stressed scenario, the agency said.

The stable trend reflects an assessment of the resiliency of the group's franchise and its ability to generate solid recurring earnings, DBRS said.

The ratings also consider the group's very strong credit fundamentals, the agency said.
