Tulip BioMed launches disposable surgical instruments for tissue removal that reduce contamination

By Lisa Kerner

Erie, Pa., May 1 - Tulip BioMed, Inc. (formerly Cell Bio-Systems, Inc.), following the Food and Drug Administration's 510(k) clearance of its cannula devices, launched its new disposable surgical instruments for the removal of soft tissue and fluid for sale to the plastic surgery market.

Tulip introduced two types of disposable surgical cannulas, in multiple tip configurations and sizes for aesthetic body contouring, according to a company news release.

The disposable instruments feature a lubricious coating designed to slip easily through tissue, and, unlike repeatedly sterilized stainless steel, the Tulip non-porous cannulas do not break down or become jagged.

The instruments are designed to solve contamination issues by eliminating reuse of liposuction, fat transfer and stem cell instruments, the company said.

Located in San Diego, Tulip is a biotechnology specializing in patented technologies for the plastic and cosmetic surgery, biopsy, orthopedic surgery, stem cell therapy and other living tissue markets.
