Transamerica announces plans for investment-grade, fixed-income funds

By Toni Weeks

San Luis Obispo, Calif., Dec. 13 - Transamerica Funds announced plans to offer two new investment-grade funds, according to an N-1A filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

The Transamerica Global Bond fund will seek total return and, under normal circumstances, will invest at least 80% of its net assets in fixed-income securities. The fund focuses on investment-grade bonds but may invest up to 25% of its total assets in bonds rated below investment grade.

Todd Howard and Scott Moses will be the portfolio managers.

Shareholder fees will include a 4.75% maximum sales charge for class A shares and 1% maximum deferred sales charge for class C shares. Including management fees of 0.54%, and taking into account the effects of a fee waiver agreement, total annual fund operating expenses are expected to be 1.05% for class A, 1.75% for class C and 0.72% for class I shares.

The Transamerica Inflation Opportunities fund will seek maximum real return, consistent with appreciation of capital and prudent investment management. It will normally invest its assets in inflation-indexed fixed-income securities issued by domestic and foreign governments (including those of emerging market countries), their agencies or instrumentalities, and corporations. The fund will invest primarily in investment-grade securities but may invest up to 20% of its assets in high-yield securities.

Amit Agrawal and Robert A. Vanden Assem will be the portfolio managers.

St. Petersburg, Fla.-based Transamerica Asset Management, Inc. will serve as the investment adviser to the funds.
