Talvivaara Mining subsidiary gets permit decision for uranium recovery

By Kali Hays

New York, April 30 - Talvivaara Mining Co.'s operating subsidiary, Talvivaara Sotkamo Ltd., received a provisional environmental permit decision for its uranium recovery operations from the Northern Finland Regional State Administrative Agency, according to a Wednesday news release from the company.

The company said that the permit will only be applicable when potential appeals processes have been completed but that it will continue to operate under previously obtained existing permits.

The company also said that it has tentatively identified issues in the permit decision that it is planning to appeal, which is a process that is expected to last for years.

The renewal application for the environmental permit was submitted by Talvivaara in 2011.

Helsinki-based Talvivaara Mining is a base metals producer with its primary focus on nickel and zinc.
