Southeastern ups stake in Sun Microsystems to 22.3%

New York, Jan. 29 - A group of Sun Microsystems, Inc. shareholders led by Southeastern Asset Management, Inc. increased its stake in the company's stock to 166,048,623 shares, or 22.3%, from 160,566,828 shares, or 21.2%, of the Santa Clara, Calif., company.

The investors purchased and sold shares of Sun Microsystems between Dec. 2 and Jan. 21 at prices ranging from $2.90 to $5.18 each, according to a schedule 13D/A with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

On Dec. 8, Sun and Southeastern agreed to add two new independent members to Sun's board of directors.
